Lisa Riney

Having grown up in a loving home in Washington, Indiana with two very artistically talented brothers, a “do-it-yourself” dad, and a mother who could create just about anything out of not much at all, Lisa enjoyed projects and color at an early age.  With every project, whether it was painting the porch, pouring concrete, laying tile or sawing wood for a new rose trellis, Lisa was always right there wanting to know how she could help.  Fortunately, there was a lot of patience from everyone in the early years of learning.

Years later with a musician husband and  three grown children with lives and projects of their own, Lisa discovered the passion for Venetian Plaster, painting murals and faux finishes.  It was quite by accident  that Lisa decided to begin to paint.  Following the hurricanes of 2004 in Vero Beach, Florida, many homes were severely damaged and the repairs were ongoing.  Families were able to get new drywall up in their homes, but the waiting list was long to get the finish work done. This was a great opportunity to help families make their homes beautiful again, as well as a tremendous satisfaction of doing something helpful in the community.

Every home was a new and different pallet to create the perfect “feel” for that family.  Whether the choice was paint, Venetian Plaster, a faux finish or mural, no two were ever alike and the joy that is experienced through helping others is extremely fulfilling.  There were many fun projects in the mix such as an old pick-up truck painted in acrylics with waves and blue skies, surfer girls and hibiscus flowers as advertisement for a restaurant.  Another project was to make mauve colored formica cabinets appear to be wood grained to match a fireplace surround.

The newest project is the very challenging Venetian Plaster Fine Art painting for framing.   Venetian Plaster is an old world art that utilizes trowels for the application of a marblized plaster onto expanses of wall space.  This is a very beautiful finish that requires several layers of Venetian Plaster in usually thin coats.  The end result can either be burnished to shine as a marble finish or left without burnishing which gives it an aged look.  Both are very beautiful.  To take Venetian Plaster to the next level, Lisa is creating Fine Art “paintings” with the Venetian Plaster.  All of the colors are mixed by hand and carefully created to mimic the real life colors of the subject she paints.  Since this is a thick material and normally applied with trowels, there are many different small knives and trowels that are used to create these “paintings”, much more difficult than using brushes with acrylic paint that is her other favorite medium.
